Melted Crayon Art

One of the hottest (no pun intended) craft trends this year is melted crayon art:  mounting crayons with a hot glue gun to an appropriate surface (canvas, foam core, poster board, etc.)  and melting them with a heat gun or hair dryer to create colorful explosions and waxy textured goodness..  After seeing these works all over Etsy and Instructables, I just had to have a go at it.

My first attempt yielded some interesting results.  I think the canvas I chose may have been a tad small, as the colors would look better with more negative space, but I rather like the texture.  Click the images below for a closer view.

Colored pencil and ink drawing of a hindu mythology vampire

Picasso’s Mistress Swims in Paint

She looks young,

Sad. I imagine the room

A library.

She rests her arms

Over a book and mourns.

She is blue, after all.

She wears a bracelet.

How does he

Create this colour?

The blue in contrast,

Directly, with yellow;

Its compliment

Sky to sun

Sadness to sunshine

Cowardice to wishes

Cradle your head

Young, ponytailed

Girl and weep.

Sometimes that is

All there is

To be done.

Imagination

A blizzard of thoughts fill my mind,

A dizzying snowglobe of unfinished fragments and underdeveloped ideas

I stand at the door to imagination, fumbling for the key,
Time and again, I fail
Until, finally, the lock turns
slowly
slowly
Do I open the door to my inner self?
Or do I stay here, frozen immobile by the cold winds of mediocrity?
With careless abandon, I throw the door open, and explore all the colors of my mind.
The white nothingness of “just being” fades…
It fades into a brilliant rainbow of all the mind has to offer.
I find MY color,
And experience the joy of pure imagination.

Pitbull Skateboard

Lights of the Night

Oil Pastels on paper.

The idea for this drawing popped into my head while trying to get to sleep one night last week. Laying still my mind was racing miles a minute, and then this image popped into my mind. That rat race, the grind, the city life I have left behind.

I had a lot of fun creating this and I plan on creating some more in the coming months.

This drawing will be hanging in the Theather Cafe down in Worcester, MA starting Dec. 1st along with a few other paintings/ drawings.

Cheers!

Great Mishapen Basket

there I am with my basket

Clutched tightly to my heart

Standing in the market square as bodies sway apart

Would they see if they stopped to stare

What im hiding what Im hiding

My love burns hot my cupboards bare

Inside of me inside of me

The tock does tick

As moments pass

And each one does offend me

Reflection stares that’s cold as glass

I wonder if he’ll send for me

What love to starve a maidens heart

And arms left undefended

My basket clutched against my heart

to silence the ways that I love him

tears that fall into the street

brand the dusty pavement

a breath that catches inside my breast

I wonder if he’ll save me

To love him not, the sands of time

Did not spin tight the earth

Deny the sweet of your caress

No sooner deny my birth

And so I hold against my heart

This great misshapen basket

So that it not fall apart

Another fool to grab it

Ghostface at the Arizona Balloon Classic.  I was bored and started playing around with my camera.  I left the shutter open for a couple seconds and moved the camera around.  An intentional accident… The face belongs to Jeff Hamilton.
