Week 20 – Heather Ouellette-Cygan

Posted: August 15, 2011 in Heather Ouellette-Cygan, Week 20

Below is an early draft of a new poem. Your feedback would be appreciated as I work to revise it. Many thanks.

The One that Got Away

I stood on the shore

Of sleep, forgetting lines

Cast. They hooked words

That pooled up to the surface,

Bubbling and begging

For ink. Lazy, I

Dreamed on and drifted

Away from tugging poles

And taken bait. I woke

Too late – words sunken

To the bottom, no longer

Able to be fried up on the page.

  1. Caron says:

Um, seems perfect the way it is. If you can make this better, I can’t wait. ❤

  2. D Rosen says:

The mind wanders and captures the times when the thought is almost articulated… I’m usually trying to capture the words in the middle of the night when I am half awake – scribbling what I can remember – You have a wonderful image of some of those frantic times… Dan/ni/ny
